We have two distinct short topics today:

1. Niches. The who and why of online communities.
2. Ethics. Distinctions between public and private communication, issues of informed consent, and other responsibilities of ethical investigators. We will also discuss procedures for external review of research plans, through the IRB, for those of you intending to develop "generalized knowledge" based on your investigation (e.g.,
   if you hope to publish something based on what you do in this course).
